How do I pray and ask God to bring my ex girlfriend back to me?

Thanks so much for your honest question.

I realise that you are asking this question from a place of real hurt, brokenness and perhaps loneliness as well. I want you to know that God is not ignorant of your situation or your pain. He is a loving Father and very much interested in what is going on in your life right now. He wants the very best for you. He wants to form and shape you in ways that would allow you to really live the most abundant kind of life there is to life. One of the central avenues He uses to transform us is through prayer, so in starting your question by saying, “How do I pray…” you are most definitely heading in the right direction!

When we pray, it is about more than getting things from God, it is also about listening to what God has “for us”. Yes, of course we can pray to God about our dreams, our needs and our desires, but it should always be within the context of being with God and listening to what He has to say to us. Prayer is not merely a quick fix for the problems in our lives, but rather an openness and willingness to be changed by God amidst our circumstances.

In other words, what I am trying to say to you is that you are wise to go to God first. He wants to listen and He wants you to be whole and live life to the fullest. For that to happen though, you will need to allow Him to shape you by listening to Him in prayer.

So this week when you pray, bring your desires before God, but also make sure that you listen to what He is saying to you. Let His Presence shape you amidst the pain and the hurt that you are feeling.

At the same time remember that we cannot control another person (even if we pray), and we must always trust God to work something good out of this painful situation even if we can’t see it right now and even if things don’t turn out the way we want them to (Romans 8:28).
