Strengthen Yourself in The Lord

Bill Johnson says this in his intro to the book: “To live in courage requires encouragement. And sometimes the only one to encourage you is you… When you learn how to strengthen yourself, you will reach your destiny, fulfill your God-born dreams, and become a person who can accurately represent Jesus—re-presenting Jesus to the world.”

We can learn to confidently face our struggles and circumstances, by unlocking God’s hidden power in our lives. We CAN learn to “count it all joy” when facing turmoil at home, work, or within our family. We CAN be strong when we know the keys to encouraging ourselves—moving past failure and boldly walking towards a successful future.

Week 1: The Secret to David’s Promotion
We start in week 1 by looking at King David. David is remembered not so much for the greatness of his actions, but for the greatness of his heart for God. David’s ability to strengthen himself and be faithful to his purpose instead of collapsing under pressure, not only saved his life, it also enabled him to lead his men to victory.

Week 2: Staying Connected to Your Destiny
This session we learn how we need to watch our hearts and consider our destiny. We learn to sustain our connection to God, build the strength of will and character required to carry His presence with excellence, while being watchful over the warning lights of our hearts, convinced that we are people with a great destiny and purpose, that we are prepared for the moment we’re standing in, and that all of heaven is waiting to back us up as we choose to be faithful to our purpose.

Week 3: Disarming Hell Through Thanksgiving and The Personal Breakthrough Moment
In this session we discuss how rejoicing, thanksgiving and praise are tools we can use to strengthen ourselves.

Week 4: Releasing the Hidden Things
This session we learn how to encounter Holy Spirit through the gift of tongues, and how helpful it is in renewing your mind, drawing your heart to Jesus, and helping you strengthen yourself in the Lord.

Week 5: Possessed by Promises and Keeping the Testimony
This session we speak about developing a lifestyle of feeding on the promises and prophecies over our lives, and meditating on the testimonies of what God has done.

Week 6: Controlling Your Environment
In the session we look at how controlling our environment and those we connect with, can influence our faith. We speak about building friendships into your life that will strengthen your values, and being careful of people who can influence you to doubt or negativity; about not being led by the needs of people, but by the heart of your Father, and about the importance of coming apart to rest at times, and letting God Himself be your most important Friend.

Week 7: The Desperate Cry and Not On My Shift
This session we look at how we are to fulfil our destiny when we still see areas of defeat in our lives. We are to take up our cross and contend for territory the enemy has taken – not just when others around us are doing so, but continuously, as a lifestyle.

Summary:
So to summarise the last 7 weeks of ways to strengthen ourselves in the Lord – we, like David, need to seek the Lord and worship him. We need to watch our hearts and consider our destiny. We need to continuously give thanks, and learn to rejoice at all times, pray as He prays, and meditate on His promises and on the testimonies of what He has already done. We are to associate with people of faith, and focus on His power and not our weaknesses. We are to take up our cross and contend for territory the enemy has taken – not just when others around us are doing so, but continuously, as a lifestyle.
