2013-02-07 Evangelism Opportunities

Q: Firstly, I would like to compliment the Leadership at Immanuel for the great work you guys are doing, it is noticed and deeply appreciated.
The Lord has placed a burning desire on my heart for community Evangelism/Outreach but I am not sure if this is something that Immanuel currently engages in or is planning to do at some stage. I know that we embark on mission trips to other African countries, which is really great but I feel that we need to be reaching out to the people in our communities. By this I mean the people in Umhlanga and surrounding areas.

I think it would be great if Leadership could provide some sort of training in terms of witnessing skills and organise some field trips to places like Gateway, etc where we could have some hands on opportunities for witnessing.

We have such talented musicians at Immanuel and we could use this talent to extend beyond the church walls – a possibilitiy would be an open air concert at Gateway in the food court or some other venue that would allow opportunities to witness and draw people to Christ.

As the Bride of Christ, we can’t do enough to Seek and Save the Lost and as Christians I feel this should be our number one priority. I believe there are many gifted and talented people at Immanuel whose skills could be harnessed to fulfill The Great Commission.

Let’s show the world what our Beautiful Lord has to offer, let’s put Jesus on display and draw the world to Him. Let’s be the City on the Hill that shines Gods light into the darkness that is enshrouding our communities.

I am willing to volunteer my time and resources because I don’t believe in Country Club Christianity that does not extend beyond the church walls – and I challenge everyone of us to do the same. Let’s go forward Christian Soldiers and win souls for Christ. Let’s be a generation Ignited for Christ.

RESPONSE: Thanks for taking the time to write this. I know this was written quite some time ago, and the response has taken a long time, but we have certainly taken your comments to heart. One of the comments that has certainly spurred us on is the idea about using our musicians to play what some would call “secular” music within a non-Christian context. Whilst we haven’t taken it to Gateway, our Sunday Nite Live events have proved successful in getting those who are far from God exposed to the Gospel in some way.

Furthermore, Na’aman regularly takes a group of people to Gateway to minister to people – if you haven’t joined him for one of these outings it is a wonderful and stretching time. You can begin by observing first and when you feel comfortable you can try step out in faith for yourself and see what God does! Get in contact with Na’aman if you want to know more.
