Prayer against Fear

This is a written transcript (as best as we can do from memory) of the prayer Greg prayed at all 3 services on Sunday:

Prophetic Prayer Against a Spirit of Fear.
Sunday AM, 2016/01/10

There is a spirit of this world that seeks to cloak us: the spirit of fear. People afraid of the future, afraid for their financial provision, afraid there will be no change in relationships gone wrong, afraid of other people groups, where fearfully they feel those groups are getting more than them, greater favour, greater benefits, greater profile, fear they will be forgotten and left to survive in the shadows, afraid they will even physically be harmed.

But GOD HAS NOT GIVEN US A SPIRIT OF FEAR, but of LOVE AND POWER AND SOUND THINKING. There is no fear in God. He is love and loves us perfectly and His Word clearly says “PERFECT LOVE DRIVES OUT ALL FEAR” (1 John 4:18). So open your hearts and receive God’s PERFECT LOVE, poured lavishly afresh upon us in the HOLY SPIRIT. This love of God dismisses these fears, banishing them away, so we have clear thinking about the future, power to do His will and hearts that love others.

This RACISM that has gripped our country over the past two weeks, isn’t so much about hate as it is about FEAR. One group afraid that the other has better opportunities and a better future. The spirit at work in this world cloaks us, interfering with clarity of thought and mind, messing with our emotions and confusing our God given clear outlook. Remember God is with us, God is for us, and who then can dare be against us?

Even now, as you allow God to flood your being with His perfect love, I sense those cloaks of fear falling to the ground from some of you and freedom, God’s divine freedom from fear, being our portion. That God is a good good Father, liberating us from being slaves of fear to being sons and daughters of God is true “liberation theology”. As powerful as traditional “liberation theology” was for the oppressed in SA, so let this liberation theology wash over you – renewing your mind: that God never leaves us or forsakes us, He always provides, and His Spirit (who promises liberty) guides us forward, unafraid, unclothed by fear, free to live powerfully for the glory of God.
